The harbour of Elburg
Officially it is called Hanzehaven Elburg; everyone simply says the harbour. It is the municipal marina on the edge of the fortified town, with over 200 permanent moorings, berths for visiting boats, the historic botters in the harbour basin and a harbour canal leading straight onto the Veluwemeer. Waiting time: count on about a year and a half
That is what we were told in the harbour in both 2025 and 2026, and it is what you would expect of a harbour this well liked: little comes free, so the waiting list barely moves. If you want a permanent mooring, register with the municipality and assume it will take a while. This does not apply to visiting boats, which can moor as long as there is space.

Entering the harbour
From the Veluwemeer or the Drontermeer you enter the harbour through the harbour canal. It is a calm, sheltered stretch: the open lake is behind you within minutes and the fortress town rises to port. Watch the water level on approach: a prolonged easterly can blow tens of centimetres of water away, which matters on the shallow approaches along the lake. Parking and arriving by road
Parking at the harbour is free. In high season and on event days it fills up, so allow a little extra time. From the car park you walk into the fortified town in a few minutes, past the Vischpoort gate and through the old streets. If you want to launch your own boat, there is a boat ramp near the harbour.
Botters, fishing and the old harbour
For centuries Elburg was a fishing town on the Zuiderzee, and the harbour still breathes that history. Historic botters lie in the harbour basin, the flat-bottomed boats the Elburg fishermen took out; in season they sail with a skipper. Around the quays you find traces of the old fishing trade, from the fish auction to the smokehouses.
With the closing of the Zuiderzee and later the reclamation of Flevoland, the water outside turned from sea into border lake. Fishing declined, the harbour became a marina, and what remains is a basin where working boats, botters and pleasure yachts lie side by side. That is exactly why Elburg harbour looks unlike an average marina.
